We are looking for enthusiastic and responsible CITs, ages 14 & up, who enjoy working with kids and being outdoors to assist with our Summer Forest Days (SFD) Program. Primary Responsibilities include:
Assist with supervising campers at all times during camp hours, leading activities, ensuring safety, and serving as a positive role model.
Assist with daily routines, including setting up and cleaning up supplies, activities, and other light housekeeping related to SFD activities around the GBC grounds/building (examples may consist of moving tables and chairs, putting out compost, trash, or recycling, sweeping, washing dishes, etc.)
Understand camp rules and safety guidelines, assist lead educators with implementing them, monitor campers and help identify potential hazards (such as poison ivy, thornbushes, etc.), and know and follow all emergency procedures.
Requirements:
Be physically able to walk on the trails with a backpack, pull wagons, and/or lift up to 30 pounds.
Communication requirements include being able to communicate with fellow staff about schedule, activities, and concerns about the campers; you must also be able to communicate with campers and work with senior staff to a ddress individual campers' needs.
Candidates must be comfortable outdoors in all-weather conditions with the kids (excluding thunder, lightning, and/or high winds, in which we will take shelter in the building).
If you are hired, all staff will be required to have a copy of the CT state Health Exam form signed by their primary care physician, and if under the age of 18, Immunization records as well (This is the same documentation needed for school).
Preferred Qualifications CPR certification* (through the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or a compatible organization). This will be offered to all staff in the spring at GBC.
Compensation: This is a volunteer position; community service hours will be provided for training and hours worked.
