We are so excited to welcome your children to the GBC’s April Vacation Days of Play! Our sessions at the Greenwich Botanical Center are an all-weather, outdoor enrichment program designed to encourage young children to grow socially, emotionally, and physically through interest-led play and natural exploration.  We have planned activities, but our schedule also flows organically from what nature presents each day.

Now, more than ever, we are especially grateful for our special spot in the forest and the time we get to spend in nature with friends. We are confident that this will be a fun opportunity for your children to play safely and socialize with their peers while learning about, and gaining an appreciation for, our beautiful earth.

Drop Off
-Drop off for April Vacation "Days of Play" will be between from 9am –9:10am with pickup at 1pm.
-Please do not drop off campers before 9am as our staff will not yet be prepared to take them.
-Please park in the parking lot and walk your child towards the main building where we will greet your child and check them in for the day.
-Please make an effort for your child to visit the bathroom before the session begins.
-In the event that you arrive after 9:15 please bring your child into the main office in our building as we need to check them in and then take them to find their group.

Dressing Appropriately
Day of Play participants must wear appropriate clothing for outdoor play and exploration. Please dress your child in clothes in which he or she can get dirty.
A labeled Ziploc bag containing a change of clothes should come with your child, just in case. A child’s clothes will only be changed if they have an accident.  Children will not be permitted to change clothes because they are wet or dirty due to play.  Please be aware that the children can get very dirty.  You may opt to keep a change of clothes in your car and change your child if s/he is too wet or dirty to ride home comfortably.

Please pack a backpack with a nut free lunch, filled water bottle and raincoat to accompany your child.

List version:

  • Zip Lock Bag with full change of clothes including socks, labeled with name (bring on first day and will be returned at end of the week)
  • Nut Free Lunch
  • Backpack with raincoat
  • Full Water bottle (we will refill during the day)
  • Rain boots

If your child has an allergy that requires an EpiPen, you will need to sign-in the EpiPen. Your child’s EpiPen will be in their group’s first aid kit while your child is in the program. Unless otherwise requested, the medication will be returned to you at the end of the program session.

Toileting
All children are expected to be “fully toilet trained.” For Forest Days programs, “fully toilet trained” means the child independently asks to go to the bathroom when needed, can sit themselves on the toilet, is able to wipe themselves, flush, and wash their hands.

Illness/Injury/Weather

  • Should your child become ill or injured during Forest Days, you will be notified by phone immediately.  Staff are trained in CPR/First Aid and respond to all emergencies.
  • Please keep your child home if they are feeling ill, have a fever. We follow the traditional school guidelines which state they can return to camp once they are fever free for 24hrs without medication.
  • Forest Days runs rain or shine.  In case of thunder and lightning, we will retreat to our indoor classroom.

Staffing
One of Greenwich Botanical Center’s experienced educators will lead each group. Each group will have one to two additional adult support as we like to maintain a low student-to-teacher ratio. Our lead teacher is certified in Adult, Child, and Infant CPR and First Aid for First Responders. She is also trained to use an EpiPen. Certifications are up to date. All staff must pass a thorough background check.

We are very excited to see your children soon! We look forward to seeing you in April for fun in the forest!
