Art in Nature Is a course created and taught by Jackie Pierson
Children will participate in weekly guided art projects, learning about new materials each session, through hands-on art making and exploratory-based creative play. Morning lessons will start with a guided and seasonally based “field trip” around the Pinetum grounds. Children will be introduced to the day’s lesson theme,
while out in the field – discovering and gathering both inspiration and materials from their outing. A corresponding creative project back at the Greenwich Botanical Center main building will follow, where the children will enjoy partaking in a new creative project each week.
This series will introduce children to a variety of artistic and sensory-engaging materials (all non-toxic and approved for children’s play), such as: paint, paper-mache, glue, collage, sculpture and building – helping them to discover an artistic repertoire and to build confidence in their own creative abilities as well as build an appreciation for their surroundings and the natural world. This is very much a process-focused class where children are encouraged to get outside, play, explore, experiment, make, engage, create, discover and have fun!
All art materials to be provided and included in the price of class. As with all of our GBC offerings – Dress for Mess!
Two teachers per every 10 children.
