Summer Forest Days Counselor

Job Role: Summer Forest Days Counselor

Position Summary: 

Camp Dates: June 3 – August 16 (11 weeks) (Minimum 3 week commitment during these weeks)
Training before beginning of Summer Forest Days – TBA
Location: Greenwich Botanical Center, Montgomery Pinetum, 130 Bible Street, Cos Cob, CT
Work hours 8:30am – 1:30pm, Monday – Friday (Rotating extended day obligations based on availability)
Pay: $15.69-$18.00 an hour depending on experience and qualifications
Age: 16 years of age or older

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Support lead counselor to plan and supervise Summer Forest Days activities for campers.
  • Provide engaging nature-based play and learning opportunities and fun experiences for campers.
  • Supervise campers and ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and overall well-being.
  • Maintain a schedule for camp participants while allowing for camper curiosity and child led play.
  • Organize and lead various group activities for ages 3-8 years old.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness of the GBC and environs.
  • Assists in keeping accurate program records and incident reports.
  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Understands any camper dietary restrictions/allergies and/or special needs.
  • Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of your charges at all times.
  • Take initiative where appropriate and be a responsible and flexible team player.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field
  • Enjoy being in the company of children
  • Enjoy being in nature and in the out-of-doors during all weather
  • Demonstrate leadership, responsibility, flexibility, a can-do attitude, attention to the task at hand, good communication, patience with campers and peers, problem-solving skills, caring attitude
  • Must be able to carry heavy loads and travel uneven terrain and have the ability to perform a variety of tasks outside in various climates
