Solitary but bright yellow flowers in early summer, from June to August. Colonizes in poor, well drained soils. Drought tolerant. Attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Benefits for pollinators: It is a host plant for the Buckeye butterfly (Junonia coenia).
